What is Pharmacy First and When Should I Use It?

Pharmacy First is an NHS service available across Scotland that allows you to get advice, treatment, and medication directly from your pharmacy — without needing to see a GP first. It’s designed to make healthcare more convenient and accessible, especially for common, everyday conditions that don’t require a doctor’s appointment.

Why Pharmacy First Exists

Many people find it difficult to get a GP appointment quickly, especially for minor conditions. Meanwhile, trained pharmacists are highly skilled in diagnosing and treating a wide range of issues — often the same issues that patients might otherwise visit a GP for.

Think of it as your first stop for everyday health concerns.

3. Treatment Provided – We may offer medication, NHS-supplied treatments (where eligible), self-care advice, or referral if needed.
